The Mur River
The River Mur dissects Graz into two parts: East and West. It originates in Salzburg and its waters flow all the way to the Black Sea. Within city limis it is crossed by a number of unremarkable street bridges and by two less conventional crossings reserved for pestrians and cyclists exclusively: A narrow pedestrian and bicycle bridge named after the late Erich Edegger, a local leader and earlier promoter of alternative transit by bike; and by the East and West gangways that connect the Murinsel to the embankments on both sides of the river. The Murinsel has the shape of a coil and the appearance of an island, but it is actually a floating strucure that rises and sinks with the changing water level of the river depending on the weather patterns and levels of precipitation upstream.
